1.0 Old houses, honest doors
Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Chewton have many gold-era timber and brick houses. Doors here have often been planed by several owners already, so we look at the hinges and the frame first and take off as little as we can.
2.0 Heritage overlays
Much of Castlemaine is covered by heritage overlays. If you're changing something visible from the street, check Mount Alexander Shire's heritage pages before you order hardware or fittings; inside jobs rarely need a permit, but ask the council if unsure.
3.0 Walls worth checking
Older houses can have lath and plaster, old paint and, in houses built before 1990, asbestos sheeting in wet areas and eaves. We test-probe before drilling, don't sand old paint, and stop if we find anything that might be asbestos.
4.0 Booking
We group jobs in and around Castlemaine to keep travel down. Send the whole list and roughly when you need it done, and we'll fit you into the next run. Houses out towards the Castlemaine Diggings are often on bushier blocks with long drives; tell us about access and we'll plan for it.
5.0 Covered
Just outside? Ask anyway with your suburb, and we'll tell you straight whether we can get there.
