1.0 What the job involves
Replacing a handle or latch on an existing hole is usually straightforward. The work is in the fit: the new latch has to sit square in the door edge, at the same backset, so the handle turns freely and the latch meets the strike. Where the new hardware doesn't match the old holes, we fill, re-cut and make good so it doesn't look patched.
Fitting a new deadlock or deadlatch means marking and cutting into the door and the frame. We check the door is solid enough where the lock goes, cut the mortise or bore cleanly, and line the strike up so the bolt throws all the way without forcing.
Hinges wear, and heavy doors wear them faster. We replace worn or undersized hinges, add a third hinge to a heavy door, and set them so the door hangs evenly. Door closers and stays are set so the door shuts without slamming.
For rentals, Consumer Affairs Victoria sets minimum standards for rental properties, including the locks on external doors. We can fit hardware to suit; whether a property meets the standards is for the rental provider to confirm. Rekeying, master-key systems and safes are locksmith work, and we'll point you to one.

4.0 How pricing works
Free quote. The parts are the biggest variable: you can buy your own, or we supply them and list each one on the quote.
Fitting to an existing hole costs less than cutting a new one. A photo of the door edge and the current hardware usually tells us which it is.
5.0 Questions
Can you fit a lock I've already bought?
Yes, as long as it suits the door. Send a photo of the box and the door edge and we'll check before we come.
Do you rekey locks?
No. That's locksmith work. We fit and replace hardware.
Can you add a lock to a hollow-core door?
Hollow doors only have solid timber in a small block. We'll check where it is; often a different lock or door suits better.
My handle is loose. Is it worth fixing?
Usually it's a loose grub screw or a worn spindle, and a quick fix. We'll replace it only if it's worn out.
Will you match the other handles in the house?
We'll try. Bring the brand or a photo, or we'll find the closest.
